Australian pitcher, Women's Baseball World Cup athlete Jacinda Barclay passes away at 29
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) mourns the loss of Jacinda Barclay, who was found dead near Perth, Australia, on Monday, 12 October. The sudden loss has shocked the Australian sports community.
Barclay was born in 1991. She played on Baseball Australia's Women's National Team at five Women's Baseball World Cups as a pitcher: 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
She helped Australia earn a silver medal in 2010 in Maracay, Venezuela, and a bronze medal in 2014 in Miyazaki, Japan.
Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale said the organisation extended its deepest sympathies to Barclay’s family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.
“It’s truly tragic news and we extend our thoughts to those close to Jacinda,” Vale said.
“Jacinda made a significant contribution not only to our sport over a long period of time but a number of other sports, on and off the field.
Barclay was an elite multi-sport athlete, excelling in Australian Football, playing for Greater Western Sydney, and American Football, playing for the Chicago Bliss in the Legends Football League in the United States.
"She was a shining comet that soared through this world casting her radiant light of love on all she met," a statement by Barclay's family read.
