Italy defeats Great Britain to win historic first-ever WBSC Blind Baseball International Cup
Italy became the first-ever champions of the WBSC Blind Baseball International Cup, the maiden WBSC international event in the paralympic discipline. The Italians topped Great Britain in the final, 10-0, to claim the title. USA earned the bronze medal.
Italy had multi-run innings in all their three at bats to defeat the British squad. Arjola Dedaj, Saliou Diane and Luca Parravano all had 3-for-3 games in the final, while designated hitter Danny Olivieri went 4-for-5 and Giorgio Napoli 4-for-5 for the champions.
In the individual awards, Napoli (ITA) scored three runs in the final and was named the MVP of the competition. Parravano (ITA) was the best hitter of the tournament and Freya Gavin (GBR) was the best defensive player.
In the bronze medal game, a three-run second inning helped the US to top Germany 4-1.
