WBSC Virtual Cup Opening Round ends with record number of entries
The Virtual Cup, the WBSC’s first own eSport competition, completed the Opening Round with record-breaking participation across four countries.
The Opening Round ran for the entire month of September in bars in Korea, Japan, Mexico and the United States, where a total of 8,146 entries were received to compete in the tournament, making it the most participated WBSC event in history.
After more than 100 teams participated in the Opening Round, 47 teams will compete in the Super Round, which will take place from 22-23 October, to determine the division champions who will advance to the World Finals in Seoul, Korea in November.
During the thousands of games played in the 2022 WBSC Virtual Cup Opening Round, the best recorded score* was 50, while other participants averaged a score* of 10.

The innovative concept of playing baseball and softball on the hybrid virtual simulator technology of Strikezon provided the participants with the game-like feel and thrill of competing in an actual international event.
The winning team of the inaugural WBSC Virtual Cup will be awarded US$ 10,000 in prize money and and a Gold Ball Park Gold Impact White Edition bat, helmet, gloves and guard as well as NFT trophies along with the runner-up.
