Kane County Cougars to meet the Diablos Rojos de Mexico in Baseball Champions League final
The Kane County Cougars will be the home team against the Diablos Rojos de México in Sunday’s Final of the Baseball Champions League 2026 in Mexico City. The top two teams from the Opening Round standings will face off at 2 p.m. local time with the title on the line.
Kane County swept the Opening Round with four wins to secure their place in the Final. On Saturday, they defeated the Managua Dantos, 9–7, to clinch first place.
In the afternoon game, the Diablos Rojos outslugged the Matanzas Cocodrilos, 36–13, to secure second place and advance to Sunday’s championship game.
With these results, Kane County (4–0) finished first in the Opening Round, followed by Diablos Rojos (3–1), Managua Dantos (2–2), Matanzas Cocodrilos (1–3) and CTBC Brothers (0–4).
Dantos-Cougars
A three-run home run by pinch-hitter Jabari Henry in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Kane County Cougars to a 9–7 victory over the Managua Dantos, securing first place in the opening round with their fourth consecutive win of the Baseball Champions League.
The American Association champions staged a comeback after trailing 5–2, capping off a high-scoring contest that featured 31 combined hits.
Kane County struck first in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Armond Upshaw. However, Managua responded with authority, putting up five runs across the third and fourth innings. The surge was highlighted by a two-run homer from Emanuel Trujillo that gave the Nicaraguan side a 5–2 advantage.
The Cougars began their comeback in the sixth inning, when Jaxx Groshans delivered a two-RBI double to cut the deficit. They followed with two more runs in the seventh, as Josh Allen and Dillon Thomas each drove in a run to edge ahead by one.
The Dantos answered in the top of the eighth, tying the game when right fielder William Rayo singled to bring home Brandon Leyton.
But the tie was short-lived. In the bottom half of the inning, Henry launched a 3–2 pitch 428 feet over the center-field wall with two runners aboard, restoring the lead and ultimately sealing the win for Kane County.
Vinny Timpanelli earned the victory despite allowing one run over 0.2 innings with two walks. Bryan Torres was charged with the loss for Managua.
Cocodrilos-Diablos Rojos
Four players collected at least five RBIs for the Diablos Rojos, including Maikel Franco, who drove in seven runs, in a 36–13 slugfest against the Matanzas Cocodrilos. The hosts hit six home runs and recorded 29 hits.
After a scoreless first inning, the Diablos Rojos scored multiple runs in each of the next seven innings, including an eight-run second inning and seven-run rallies in both the fifth and eighth.
Ramon Flores homered twice, scored five runs and drove in six. Moises Gutierrez, Jose Marmolejos, Franco and Bryan Gonzalez also went deep for the defending champions.
All 10 players in the Diablos lineup recorded at least one RBI.
For Matanzas, Jose Noroña and Andrys Perez hit home runs as part of a 13-hit performance.
