MAZATLAN, Sinaloa, Mexico — Cuba defeated USA, 6-3, in the gold medal finale of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2014 to earn the title of U-15 World Champions.

Venezuela reached the game for third place at the II 15U Baseball World Cup with a 5-3 win over Chinese Taipei. Both teams will meet again in the Bronze Medal Match on Sunday with Venezuela having home field advantage. The defending champion scored all five runs in the first four innings en route to the victory. CT answered with three in the fourth, but Harvin Mendoza and Angel Ortega kept the Asian team hitless through the last 5 1/3 innings to deny a comeback.

In a crucial matchup en route to a Gold Medal Final participation the United States defeated Chinese Taipei 5-4 in ten innings. A RBI single by Christopher Martin in the bottom of the first extra-inning decided the outcome in walk-off style. The US squad had tied the game in the seventh to force bonus baseball.
