Hosting WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup yields economic boost to Ciudad Obregon
The daily Tribuna Sonora has reported on the positive economic impact that the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup had on host city Ciudad Obregon. The city hosted Group A and the placement round of the first Baseball World Cup to have taken place since 2019, following the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) reported that the hotels registered a total of 15,935 rooms during the tournament. The rooms reserved for the U-23 Baseball World Cup represent 11.83% of the total.
According to the OCV, the total value of the tournament for touristic services in the area ranges from 8 to 10 million pesos (approximately 388,000-485,000 US$).
"In addition to the numbers, it is worth highlighting the social, sporting and image impact of the city by hosting a world event," commented Moisés Corrales Ruiz, the OCV owner.
