Picture perfect at the Baseball5 World Cup
They say a picture paints a thousand words and there was no better illustration of this at the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup at El Zocalo in Mexico City last week.
While the hustle and bustle of the Baseball5 World Cup Super Round was taking place on centre court, award-winning British artist Andy Brown gave the ideal painters impression of the stunning tournament.
For over half a decade, Brown, a former art teacher, has travelled the globe painting baseball and on Friday it was Baseball5 for the first time where he made two paintings - one during the day and the other an evening perspective.
Having painted over 120 different baseball ballparks around the world, Brown was suitably impressed with the Baseball5 location and positioning. “It’s incredible to be here, right in the heart of the city, this amazing sport being played in front of us, it’s fantastic.
“The crowds have been fantastic and the talent of the field has been unbelievable. I remember seeing Baseball5 on the streets of Cuba when I was there and now to see it set up like this here is awesome.”
"Coming from a non-traditional baseball country I feel like I can see from a distance what makes the sport special and that’s what I paint, especially the little twist each country puts on the sport. Frum Cuba, and the US to England and Scotland where the do play baseball and I’ve painted there as well and its all different and all great. Amazing way to record and capture the culture."
Brown has painted stadia in 15 different countries since he first started in Korea doing little drawings before they got bigger and turned into paintings. “Wherever they play baseball I’m there,” he said.
