Countdown: Inaugural WBSC Virtual Cup to open in one week
The inaugural WBSC Virtual Cup, a dynamic, open-to-the-public eSport tournament, will start on 1 September at bars in Korea, Japan, Mexico and Florida (USA). The WBSC will use Newdin's Strikezon state-of-art technology as the virtual field of play.
Participants can form a team of two members and play the screen baseball games at all Strikezon venues that have been authorized WBSC Virtual Cup hosting rights.
The top teams will advance to the Super Round, which will take place on 23 October as a single-elimination tournament at a designated location in each division.
The top team from each division and three Wild Cards -- 16 teams in total -- will advance to the Finals, scheduled for the end of November in Korea.
In December 2020, the WBSC approved the inclusion of eSport with all virtual/electronic versions of baseball and softball among its official disciplines. Subsequently, early in 2021, the WBSC presented its strategic approach to eSport, composed of three pillars (Mobile, Pro, Virtual). Today, with the virtual pillar, the WBSC presents the Virtual Cup, marking the WBSC’s first own eSport competition.
Newdin is a company that develops technology that creates digital, virtual and augmented reality sports simulation experiences, namely baseball, as leisure products for the entertainment business.
