International Women’s Day 2025: WBSC empowers female leaders through ASOIF's Women Lead Sports programme

The ASOIF Women Lead Sports course is a four-week, action-oriented programme that provides women with the tools and skills needed to take on leadership roles in sport, covering topics such as communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and self-confidence.

In celebration of International Women's Day 2025, the WBSC is proud to join the global movement to recognise the social, economic and cultural achievements of women. As part of this celebration, WBSC continues its commitment to empowering women in sport through ASOIF's Women Lead Sports course, which plays a key role in helping women break barriers and take on leadership roles within the sports industry.

WBSC Paralympic Commission Member Eva Trevisan and Priscilla Brandi from the Association of International Blind Baseball - represented the WBSC at ASOIF's Women Lead Sports Programme in March, 2024. They also attended a two-day course in October in Lausanne before talking to the WBSC to offer insights into the significant impact it had on their personal and professional growth.

The Women Lead Sports course is designed to empower women globally to become leaders in sport and offers comprehensive leadership training in a hands-on environment. Through a series of online sessions and group exercises, the course provides participants with the tools and confidence to step into leadership roles within their organisations and communities.

For Italian softball player Trevisan, it was an enriching experience.

“Talking to all the women who may be already are in high positions and talking to the coach, I realised that I have a lot of skills that I didn’t know I had,” Trevisan said. “I’m ready to step forward and that’s the big change.

“One of the most important things I learned was how to manage stakeholders and how to approach them effectively,” Trevisan added.

For Brandi, the course offered more than just practical tools. As a self-identified introvert, her experience in the course allowed her to feel empowered to share her thoughts and opinions in ways she had previously wavered to do.

“This course gave me the courage to speak up. It really gave me the power to say something,” Brandi remarked. “It’s easy to think you’re not prepared enough or that maybe you’re not good enough but through this course, I learned the courage to speak up, share my opinions and make a difference.”

The hands-on approach of the course helped Trevisan and Brandi, who were immersed in team-building exercises and personality measurements.

“It really reminded me of the DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness) personalities, and I could actually touch with my hands what we learned during the sessions,” Brandi explained about the interactive elements that put theory into practice.

Trevisan and Brandi attested that it was a life-changing opportunity for them, as the course fostered empowerment in all areas of life, helping women to discover potential and apply it to real-life situations that create lasting impact in their careers and communities.
