Chinese Taipei inaugurates National Baseball Training Complex at Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centers

Exactly 14 years after the launch of the Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centres project, the ground-breaking Baseball Training Complex for all Chinese Taipei baseball programmes has been officially inaugurated.

The state-of-the-art complex, with the design principle of a Major League Baseball spring training facility, has a 25,000-seat main stadium, a secondary field with 3,000 seats, a main U-12 field with 8,000 seats, a secondary U-12 field with 1,000 seats, an indoor practice facility, an outdoor multi-function practice field, and two outdoor infield practice fields.

Built on the former Hoshunliao Softball Field site, the complex is located approximately 13 kilometres northeast of downtown Tainan, adjacent to the National Museum of Taiwan History. The site is also expected to become home to the future U-12 Baseball World Cup and Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Originally initiated in 2012, the NT$2.2 billion (US$73 million) project has become one of the most significant baseball infrastructure developments in Asia. WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari served as senior advisor to the project from its inception.

The first phase of the project broke ground in 2018 and was completed in time for the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2019. Since the inauguration of both U-12 fields, four editions of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup have been held, and Tainan has been the global centre of international U-12 baseball since.

The second phase of the project, which included the 25,000-seat main stadium, a 3,000-seat secondary field and training facilities, began in 2020 and was completed in January 2025. Numerous tournaments, such as the Black Panthers High School Tournament and Qualifiers of the National Games, have been held at the secondary field, with CPBL (Chinese Professional Baseball League) hosting its minor league games since 2023.

In August, the Centres will host the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Tainan 2026. Seven-time defending champions and World’s No. 1 Japan, No. 5 Venezuela, No. 7 Cuba, No. 15 Great Britain, No. 21 Philippines, and host No. 6 Chinese Taipei will play for the top three spots to advance to the Final Stage in Rockford (IL), USA in 2027.

The construction of the Main Stadium was completed in January 2025, and the BFA U-15 Baseball Championship was held as the first-ever international tournament before CPBL’s Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions moved in to make it home, starting their 2026 season.

The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association will take over

The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) will operate the facility, now designated the Chinese Taipei Baseball Training Complex. The CTBA will work with Taiwan Sports Training Centre, an Independent Administrative Institution under the Sports Ministry, to provide state-of-the-art training facilities for all levels of Chinese Taipei teams, from U-12 to elite adult, and to further promote the sport domestically and internationally through future exchange programs and tournaments.
