Argentina National Baseball Team claim Abrazo de Maipu Cup in Buenos Aires
The National Baseball Stadium in Buenos Aires hosted world No. 33 Argentina (Senior and U-23 National Teams) and No. 42 Chile for the seven-day Abrazo de Maipu Cup. The Senior Argentina National Team defeated the country’s U-23 squad, 4-2, to claim the title. Chile finished third.
The three teams played a double round robin from 2 to 6 September, with the top two teams advancing to the final on Sunday, 7 September. Argentina Senior swept the opening round to secure a spot in the final, while Argentina U-23 and Chile split their games to finish with a 1-3 record. The host U-23 side advanced thanks to the tie-break system.

Among the individual awards, Luis Gonzalez (ARG) was named MVP of the tournament, Kevin Riello (ARG) earned Best Pitcher honors, while Matías Perez (ARG) was recognized as Best Hitter.
“These competitions are fundamental to strengthening national baseball. It is key to carry out these tournaments so that the discipline continues to grow in the region,” said Roberto Braccini, president of the Argentina Baseball Federation, during the award ceremony.
For Argentina, the event served as preparation for the U-23 Pan American Championship, the South American qualifier for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2026, to be held in Lima, Peru, from 20 to 25 October. With one spot at stake, the six participating countries in the regional qualifier will be No. 6 Venezuela, No. 13 Colombia, No. 21 Brazil, No. 33 Argentina, host No. 44 Peru, and No. 67 Ecuador.
The WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2026 will be hosted in Nicaragua, from 6 to 15 November.
