Japan remains WBSC Men's Softball World Ranking No. 1; USA reaches highest position ever
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today unveiled the latest WBSC Men's Softball World Ranking following the conclusion of the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup 2026, which replaced the points awarded from the inaugural edition in 2023. The ranking also includes the continental qualifiers played in 2026.
Japan remains the top-ranked nation in the WBSC Men's Softball World Ranking following the latest update. The Japanese squad won the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup and now sits atop the standings with 3,128 points. However, No. 2 Venezuela narrowed the gap to 331 points thanks to a third-place finish at the Pan American Championship and a fifth-place finish at the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup. Venezuela now totals 2,797 points.
Additionally, Canada returned to the top three for the first time since September 2024. Despite finishing eighth in Sincelejo and fourth at the Pan American Championship, Canada took advantage of Argentina’s drop in the standings. Argentina fell from third to fifth after losing points with their third place in 2023 replaced by a seventh place at the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026.
USA also climbed one place to World No. 4 to reach their highest-ever position in the ranking. Despite not participating in the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026, the Americans earned 298 points at the Pan American Championship and now have 2,262 points overall, surpassing Argentina.
No. 6 Mexico and No. 8 Australia swapped positions, as Mexico now totals 1,955 points after winning bronze in Sincelejo and gold at the Pan American Championship. Meanwhile, the Aussies lost 106 points after failing to defend their U-23 world title. New Zealand remain No. 7.
With the Dominican Republic finishing sixth at the Pan American Championship, and Singapore losing points after finishing 11th at the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026 (compared to ninth in 2023), the Dominicans narrowly returned to the top 10.
No. 26 Puerto Rico and No. 33 Aruba returned to the WBSC Men's Softball World Ranking following their participation at the Pan American Championship in February. Aruba last appeared in the ranking in May 2022, while Puerto Rico featured for the last time in December 2023.
Peru became the highest climber in the ranking, moving up nine spots from No. 34 to No. 25.
The Men's Softball World Ranking includes tournaments from over the past four year period, counting only the latest edition of each event. See World Ranking methodology here + Appendix
