Puerto Rico hosts second 'Hope Baseball Clinic'

The event was part of the Intellectual Disability Awareness Week. Former MLB superstar Igor Gonzalez coordinated the coaching staff and presented the 40 participants with autographed balls. "Baseball can change lives," commented the Puerto Rican Federation President Josè Quiles.

The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) hosted the second Hope Baseball Clinic, Operación Alegría (Cheerfulness Operation), at the Nestor Morales Stadium in Humacao, for people with intellectual disabilities. The event, held in collaboration with the Health Department, was part of the Intellectual Disability Awareness Week.

"These initiatives reaffirm our commitment to the community and highlight the concept of baseball as a sport for all," commented José Daniel Quiles, FBPR President.

Former Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star and Puerto Rico's manager at the WBSC Premier12 2024, Juan Igor Gonzalez, led the coaching staff, which included U-12 National Team manager Héctor Irizarry and a group of players from the Superior Double-A League. The 40 participants worked through three stations, hitting, base running and pitching.

At the end of the clinic, Gonzalez presented the participants with autographed balls.

"We are grateful to the Humacao City Government and the Grises Double-A franchise," added Quiles. "This event confirms how baseball can change lives."
