WBSC Licensing Programme: Hong Kong hosts courses for international baseball coaches, umpires, technical commissioners and scorers
The WBSC Licensing Programmes 2026 successfully trained 84 technical officials across four distinct disciplines, including Coaching Baseball, Technical Commissioners (TCs), Umpires and Scoring, in Hong Kong, China. The initiative achieved a 92% overall certification rate and introduced new digital assessment tools (tablet-based scoring, quizzes).
Commissioners, Umpires, and Scorers worked together in a live game during the final day.
Andrea D'Auria (Italy) and Marc Carrillo (Spain) held the Level 1 Coaching Course at the Shun Yeung Primary School with 50 participants.
Jan Kuipers (Netherlands) and Nicky To (Hong Kong) ran the Baseball Technical Commissioners course with eight participants. The Board Room of the Olympic House hosted the classes, while the Shun Yeung Primary School hosted the on-field activity.
Carlos Rey and Kelvin Bultron (Puerto Rico) held the Level 1 Umpiring course with 14 participants. The Jockey Club Lecture Theatre at the Olympic House hosted day one's class. The Indoor School Hall at the Shun Yeung Primary School hosted the other session.
Roberto Saletti (Italy) and Cindy Chan (Hong Kong) held the Scoring Course for 12 participants. The Olympic House hosted the four days of classes, while the scorers completed the practical part at the Shung Yeung Primary School Baseball Field.
