WBSC reaffirms sport’s role in addressing global challenges at Olympism365 Summit

The Summit served as a forum to discuss sport’s response to critical global challenges and as a launchpad for further concrete action to amplify the role of sport in responding.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) was one of the more than 100 organisations and 70 countries who participated in the IOC’s "Olympism365 Summit: Sport for a Better World", which took place from 3-5 June in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The event served as a forum to discuss sport’s response to critical global challenges and as a launchpad for further concrete action to amplify the role of sport in responding.

From enhancing health, well-being and economic inclusion, to promoting safer communities and fostering environmental sustainability, you can see the outcome of the summit here.

IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry said: “It really takes a village and this is just the start of the ever-growing village that we are going to be expanding upon from these two days.

“We heard the words ‘teamwork’ and ‘stronger together’. We heard collective actions. We spoke about being knocked down and getting back up again, being adaptive, being resilient and leaning on each other. These things embody sport. This is why we love it, this is why we live it and we breath it.”

The WBSC was represented by the WBSC Integrity Unit Officer Amy Park, who is also an IOC certified Safeguarding Officer.

Moving forward, the outcomes of the Olympism365 Summit will inform the sport and Olympic Movement into future global policy processes and forums. Monitoring of implementation and impact will be undertaken, alongside tracking of the commitments made at the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development in Paris in July 2024.
