Alexander Gamboa shines in Venezuela's bronze medal campaign at WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup Nayarit 2025
Alexander Gamboa emerged as one of the standout figures at the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup Nayarit 2025, helping Venezuela secure a bronze medal after an inspiring run that ended with a victory over Mexico. His performances not only anchored the team’s campaign but also earned him a place on the prestigious All-World Team, recognising him as one of the tournament’s finest players.
Gamboa, 18, reflected on the team’s journey, describing the preparation period as crucial to their success. “We had a very good month of preparation, both physically and mentally. The level was very high, much more than we expected. The teams showed a lot, but we also proved ourselves,” he said.
Though Venezuela, who were appearing in a WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup for the first time, narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after falling to Chinese Taipei - eventual silver medallists - the bronze medal finish was still a source of immense pride. “For a moment we thought we were going to be champions, but Chinese Taipei is a very good team and they left us out of the fight for gold," Gamboa said. "Still, we managed to win bronze and we feel extremely proud of that medal.”
For Gamboa, the World Cup was not just about the team’s success but also a defining moment in his young career. His ability to consistently get on base and deliver under pressure stood out. “It’s an incredible adrenaline rush. I felt amazing, very confident in myself. I even surprised myself because I’m usually always rushing. I’m really happy with what I achieved,” he admitted.
That confidence and consistency helped him stand out enough to be named to the All-World Team, a recognition that capped off an unforgettable tournament.
Making his debut on the international stage, Gamboa expressed how special it was to wear the Venezuelan colours. “It’s the first time I’ve represented Venezuela, and it’s the best experience I could have lived. I dedicate this to my family and send greetings to all of Venezuela because they never stopped supporting us.”
Despite the bronze medal, Gamboa insists Venezuela’s journey is just beginning. The young star is determined to keep pushing forward: “We want to keep fighting because this is not over. We want to continue representing Venezuela in more tournaments like this.”
With his breakout performance and international recognition, Alexander Gamboa has established himself as one of the brightest young talents in Baseball5, and his story is only just beginning.
